Atlantic Shrink Wrap, How it Works!

When people think of shrink-wrapping, they usually think of small items like food dishes with some Saran wrap. However, shrink-wrapping has come a long way over the past few years, and today virtually anything can be shrink wrapped, from helicopters to huge pieces of machinery. When it’s time for an expert job, Atlantic Shrink Wrap is able to meet any challenge.

Located in Pasadena, Maryland the company is well known for its ability to shrink-wrap anything and everything. Providing its services to various industries including the military, aerospace, energy, transportation and historic preservation, the company continues to lead the way in shrink-wrapping technology. One of its most impressive projects to date has been the company’s visit to Roanoke, VA to wrap a steel-framed machine for transport to Louisiana. At 95 feet long and 120,000 pounds, the company had its work cut out for them. The biggest challenge to wrapping an item this big is guarding against sharp edges. To overcome this obstacle, lots of padding is put in place to keep everything safe during the long road trip.

While shrink-wrap can look strong and tight when first done, if careful attention is not given to it, the wrap can tear once out on the open road. If this happens, it could not only damage the item but also make it dangerous for the truck driver and other drivers on the road. Each project comes with its own unique set of challenges, and the steel-framed machine was no exception. Due to its size and restrictions of the transport trailers, it had to be taken apart and each piece wrapped separately, with the larger piece being 74 feet long and the smaller one 21 feet long.

Once accomplished, it was time to be put on the truck and let the trip to Cajun country begin. Traveling over 900 miles at minimum speeds of 50 miles per hour, it proved to be quite a test for the shrink-wrap. But as usual, Atlantic came through with flying colors, proving yet again they are the best in the business.
